Chances are you’re not reading this on a mobile device

Analytics startup Parse.ly has released its third bi-monthly “Authority Report” on Wednesday, and the big finding is that the majority of traffic for some top online publishers still comes via laptop and desktop computers.

The company analyzed the screen sizes of devices that its customers’ readers use to access their content, and found that about 60 percent of all traffic came from devices with screen ratios of 16:9 or 16:10, indicating it came mostly from laptops or desktops. Overall, traffic from mobile devices accounts for between 10 and 20 percent of traffic, peaking at nearly 20 percent in the evenings and with most of it — at least 13.8 percent — coming from Apple iPads or iPhones.

This is the third time Parse.ly has released a report on traffic trends. A highlight of its first report was Feedly’s dominance as the reader app of choice in lieu of Google Reader, while its second highlighted the high percentage of traffic coming from so-called dark search. There’s an interactive version of the screen-size chart (and a couple others) available online

Windows 8 Consumer Preview On February 29th

On February 29, Microsoft  will finally release the Consumer Preview, a partly-finished beta, to the entire  world. It’s announcing the preview at an event at Mobile  World Congress in Barcelona.

The venue is interesting, since MWC is all about (duh) mobile devices.  Earlier this month, a video leaked explaining how  the next version of Windows Phone will interact with Windows 8, and share a  lot of common technology  as well. Expect to see some of that interaction at the show.

Here’s the invite:

We Bought $1.3 Trillion Worth of Mobile in 2011 Alone

At today’s CES keynote Qualcomm‘s CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs just said that consumers bought approximately $1.3 trillion dollars work of mobile devices last year. Trillion. With a T. That’s about 8.5% of the U.S. National Debt. Dang.

Samsung Sells Two TVs Every Second of Every Day

Samsung Sells Two TVs Every Second of Every DayEither one guy is buying hundreds of thousands of Samsung teevees a day to rig the stats, or we’re collectively Samsung-crazed in our television choices. According to President Boo-Keun Yoon, the company moves two sets per second, globally.

I’m no math wizard, but given population figures I’m guessing a lot of people are buying TVs for their parents and dogs and closets and spare TVs to use as coffee tables
